Overcoming obstacles in Life
“You have to Ignore the Noise and Move Forward.” Francesca said, “Write that down!”
Sitting having lunch with my daughter and grandson, we were talking about overcoming obstacles in life. How it is that you continue after you know all of the tools needed to proceed.
I said, “You have to Ignore the Noise and Move Forward.” Francesca said, “Write that down!”
I said, “What?” she said, “What you said,” I said, “What did I say?” and so it goes, but between the two of us, we remembered.
The shortened version of precisely what I feel we have to do to grow, prosper, raise excellent and successful children, and have healthier relationships.
After that day, I read through a few of my stories and see why those words came out so quickly; I have written those words in my writings but never given much thought to it. I was doing it. Ignoring the noise and moving forward.
For many years now, I have been writing. However, it wasn’t until the last year that I realized all of this writing was therapy—Writing Therapy, which was food for my soul. I found myself going back and rereading my life experiences made me happy; some of my stories are humorous, which I believe is good for the soul.
When you think of what you have done in your life, what are your 10,000 hours?
The older you get, the harder it is to determine what you want to focus on to give back or the next chapter in your life.
Imagine having 10,000 hours x 3 or more; which one do you choose?
10,000 hours is around ten years of experience. Mine would be Sales, Internet marketing management, Internet Project Management, and probably others.
But, what is uniquely mine that I can use in Giving Back?
I have a bit of an old hippy inside of me. When I was 32, I recall thinking that I would be doing something like volunteering at this time in my life.
With the skills, I have acquired in my 3 x 10,000 hours!! I realize writing has helped me Ignore the Noise around me and keep Moving Forward.
My writing is uniquely mine. What I have learned and how I learned is uniquely mine. However, the still small voice has reminded me that this is not for me now but for others for a positive impact. It is about donating my time doing something that will help others become successful in their personal growth.
That still small voice has made it loud and clear, “Ann, it is not about you.”
- Ask yourself, what good would it do for me to sit and look miserable?
- Remember, all of the muscles it takes to be unhappy?
- It is so much easier to see happiness or at least move in that direction.
It is tough to release yourself from all of life’s troubles. But, it is impossible to move forward living in the past. I can hear the Frozen Song! Let it Go! It might sound corny, but read the lyrics in the song.
What does Growth Mean?
Learning and Growing means knowing where you have been and planting the seeds for successful personal growth.
- Does the flower look back into the ground and say I can’t continue?
- Did the winner of the race look back to see if he or she is going to lose?
When others discriminate against you, as I told my kids when they were growing up, You are allowed to cry for a short period, and then you have to pull up your britches and move on. Move Forward.
Everyone faces some sort of discrimination: poor, uneducated, wealthy, and educated, race, religion, gender, and on and on. It all goes back to Ignore the Noise and Move Forward.
What is Uniquely yours?
- Take out your resume, if you don’t have a resume, create one just for this purpose
- Write all of your work experience
- If you are a Stay at home, Mom or Dad, same process.
- What other skills do you have?
- What volunteering or donating your time have you done?
- What gives you the most joy?
- What would you do whether you made money at it or not?
- How about where you have had a positive impact?
