OPPORTUNITY
One time I sinned, and I have been paying for it ever since
One of my favorite lines. But, sometimes, it is true. Hell actually feels like it is on earth. It’s like being a kid and dropping mirrors and being told you will have “bad luck” for the next 7 years.
I think by the time I was 18, I had dropped no less than 7 mirrors. You do the math. But it looks like if I can live until 70, I should be out of the bad luck phase. Mostly because I am sure I broke several more after that.
But I love that line. One time I sinned…., and I have been paying for it ever since.
But, of course, anyone who knows me knows it was more than once.
I can imagine some people have lived hell on earth. As my Dad said, “some people got it real rough.”
If it wasn’t for bad luck
The bad luck thing, I think of the song Born Under a Bad Sign, if it wasn’t for bad luck, I wouldn’t have no luck at all.
I have walked under quite a few ladders; within the last month, I did it about 4 times, on purpose. So I don’t know which side of the bed is bad, but I am sure I have done it.
If I am superstitious, it is only the good stuff. I never entertain the bad stuff. I grew out of that.
I used to say uneven years were bad for me and the good years seemed to be even. Today, I don’t even think about that. Those odd numbers no longer phase me.
I watched Men in Kilts, so I gather the superstitious part of me is from Scotland and probably the most brutal.
Life is over so fast – be aware of the time you waste
Jealousy is prevalent at any age. What personality trait wants to keep you down? Or keep you in your “place?”
Those personalities are shocked when they realize they have no control and should have grown their own existence for the last few decades.
The controlling personality wants to be sure you never grow. In their minds, they want to keep you where you were in your learning years. Actually, those are the years that give you the most to write about!
I am so far removed from associating with negative and or jealous or envious people. And Covid has made it even easier.
However, when I experience their personalities, it is hard for me to understand why they wasted so many years not developing themselves on the inside. It can be done.
I see petty little things, and I still smile. I refuse to waste my energy on frowning. Anyhow, smiling is much more fun.
The past is there for a reason. To learn from.
Can you imagine living in Misery, over and over again? Like Ground Hog Day? Isn’t that the definition of Insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?
Each day you wake up is an opportunity. So, every day is an opportunity. Eliminate those who pull you down. They are in fear you will rise above them. They can’t have that.
Who would be their Minion if you rise above?
Jungleland. When I look at NYC from LaGuardia, I always think it is a Jungle. A Concrete Jungle.
Jungleland is one of my all-time favorite songs. More than anything, it is what I hear and feel as I listen to Clarence Clemons play his Sax.
Yes, it can be tough, it can be sad, but it won’t last long. You can do it, learn from the Journey. It will be amazing if you just hang in there. There will be love, laughter, and peace. Savor these moments; they look different at the end.
What is his Sax saying to you?
The beauty of music is that it speaks to you at different times in your life. The message changes over time. Like Jeff Beck’s Definitely Maybe.
The Back Story
There will always be someone who doesn’t want you to have a good life. Wishes you the worst. Bad people are not going away. Controlling people are not going away. People who think you should not be on earth or have your freedoms are not going away. Someone always wants control.
But, whose problem is that? Yours or Theirs?
Remember, Controllers require Minions. They will go as far as to try and ruin your marriage and friendships. Wasted Energy.
When I say Ignore the Noise and Move Forward, I mean it.
How much you allow the things around you to live rent-free in your mind is something you can control. I don’t mean to be oblivious to the world around you. I mean, recognize who is for you and who is against you.
Recently, I noticed someone “secretly” taking a photo of me while fumbling with their cell phone. Just like the paparazzi, glad I had my lipstick on. What do you think she was going to do with the picture? Body shame?
What I was reminded of is some people never change, meaning they never grow.
It is always good to know who is with us and who is against us.
- Ever play baseball as a kid and, while running to each base, jump over the opposition at first, second or third base?
- That is how it works, Jump over each Opponent and Move Forward!
Despite those against us, continue to smile, be happy and kind, and move forward.
Every day is an Opportunity.
